After another outstanding season, three Montverde Academy soccer players have been named to the Top Drawer Soccer Winter All-America First Teams, while three others earned All-Region honors. Jody Brown, Vivianne Bessette and Maria Tregansin were all recognized from the Montverde Infernational Futbol Club, and the Soccer Institute at Montverde Academy is represented by Edward Mensah, Santa Ihara and John Atem Kato.
Brown earned a spot on the Girls All-America team in her final season at the Academy before joining Florida State University. The Jamaican National Team player finished her MIFC career with an undefeated 37-0 record, and tallied an outstanding 58 goals and 14 assists.
"Jody had a great year, she represented Jamaica at different levels," said MIFC Director Robbie Aristodemo. First team All-American is a big accomplishment for Jody and our program. Her first year, she only played a few games. So for her to put up those numbers over two seasons is incredible."
Joining Brown on the North Florida All-Region team are Canadian defender Vivianne Bessette and junior midfielder Maria Tregansin. In addition to these individual honors, the MVA girls soccer team finished No. 1 in the TopDrawerSoccer winter rankings. This year's MIFC squad went 12-0 after seven scheduled opponents canceled games against the Eagles. Â
"Vivianne signing with USF was helpful, and then Maria committing to UCF has really helped our cause to finish number one," said Coach Aristodemo. "I'm really happy for all three of them to get recognized. We're the only school that had multiple players on the all-region team, so to have three represented is a huge accomplishment."
Ghanaian defender Edward Mensah and midfielder Santa Ihara represent the Academy on the Boys All-America team. Mensah, who will be playing at Penn State next season, earned his place after a top performance in this year's MAST tournament. Â
"Edward  is an elite level center back who is an outstanding leader," said SIMA Director Mike Potempa.  "His ability to organize and compete separates him from the rest. He has tremendous speed and athletic ability and will do great things at Penn State in the fall."
Gatorade Player of the Year Ihara also had an outstanding year, amassing six goals and 10 assists from his position in defensive midfield. The Japanese midfielder is the first SIMA player to go on and play for Duke, but will be joining a myriad of SIMA alum in the ACC.
"Santa Ihara is the epitome of the term student-athlete," said Potempa. "An extremely intelligent young man in the classroom, and a disciplined selfless team player on the field is what will carry him to Duke University in the ACC in the Fall. Santa is a true product of the SIMA Program."
Joining Mensah and Ihara on the North Florida All-Region team is Kenyan junior forward John Atem Kato.
