The Montverde Academy girls' volleyball team went the distance with Citrus League foe Bishop Moore, and the Eagles fell on the short end losing a tight match in five sets in Orlando on Monday evening.
The Eagles won the first set 25-21 to lead 1-0. After losing the second set, MVA won the third set 25-17 to go ahead 2-1. The host Hornets won the fourth set 25-17 to set the stage for a deciding match. The Eagles led 13-10 late, before the Hornets tallied off five in a row to pull off the narrow win.
Ana Julia Peixoto and Isabella Johnson led the way with 14 kills each, while Thalita Marangon had 13 kills, five service aces and eight digs for the Eagles. Johnson added three block assists for MVA. Meanwhile Luiza Manata had 13 digs, while Bailey Hollis had six digs, four block assists and 21 assists. Taina De Lima Nunes added 24 assists and eight digs.
MVA is back in action on Tuesday night for senior night against Mount Dora at 6:00 pm in the Nest.
