Girls Soccer Plays to a 2-2 Tie with Bishop Moore

Montverde Academy girls' soccer team played Bishop Moore to a 2-2 tie on Wednesday evening at the Montverde Academy Athletic Facility.

At the start of the game, just thirty-six seconds in, Estefania Gonzales scored to give the 1-0 lead to the Eagles. The game started with the goal and some dangerous action on the wing with Gonzalez and Anya Bernechea. Antonella Mazziotto made some holds of the ball near the area. In the fourteenth minute coming from a corner kick by Grace Sodermark, Mazziotto scored a header to increase the lead 2-0.

Starting the twenty-second minute, the Eagles started to do some changes by changing their left back and left winger.  First half was a battle in the middle by both teams. The Eagles possessed  the ball in the Bishop Moore half and made lots of transitions forward, but nothing dangerous. Before the end of the first half Grace Banker shot a powerful direct kick which was punched out by the Bishop Moore goalkeeper.

Less than two minutes into the start of the second half, Bishop Moore had a fastbreak and a great move out on the wing, scored by Gaby Garcia. Following that, Montverde Academy had some dangerous occasions, including a corner kick by Grace Sodermark, and a shot by Grace Banker which went out close to the right post.

Later in the second half, MVA had some dangerous occasions with a great cross into the penalty spot by Lola Ressler and a missed shot by Gonzales. Some minutes later Gonzalez again took another shot that went wide.

The game continue with MVA possessing the ball within the attacking zone with great passes and keeping the ball with their midfielders Elsa Stedman and Lola Ressler. But with ten minutes to finish the game Bishop Moore got a penalty kick, which was beautifully scored.

With the game tied 2-2 Montverde went up and kept the ball in the Bishop Moore zone most of the time. They were trying to make some plays out the wing and some breaking line passes. Also a shot by Grace Banker from a couple of yards outside the box was sent into the keeper hands of Bishop Moore.

Montverde did not have any more clear opportunities, even though they were continuing to attack.

"The team played good, we have the experience, we had the opportunities, but we couldn't finished them and at the end the result is this," Gonzalez said.

Montverde Academy had a great game where they keep the possession and were clearly dominating the game. But Bishop Moore knew how to use their opportunities. Great performances for Montverde Academy by Elsa Stedman, Lola Ressler, Grace Sodermark, Grace Banker and Estefania Gonzales.

"it was really unfortunate and disappointing we technically dominated a lot of shots. We had probably 15 to 20 shots probably 95% of possession," MVA head coach Robbie Aristodemo said. "There is really just a one-way traffic kind of surprised we could've scored four five or six, but it's one of those games sometimes after break Thanksgiving we look a little lethargic, but credit to the opposing team for playing hard they snuck a result in late".
