Down a player most of the second half, Antonella Mazziotto scored a goal in the seventy-fifth minute and the Montverde Academy girls' soccer team tied Bartram Trail High School 1-1 on Friday night in day one of the Women's Invitational Showcase Tournament (WIST) hosted by Montverde Academy.
The first half was back and forth between both teams and neither team scored.
Early in the second half, Estefania Gonzalez was given the blue card for a hard foul leaving Montverde Academy a man down the rest of the game.
Six minutes after that, in the forty-eighth minute, Bartram Trail scored to take a 1-0 lead.
Bartram Trail was given two yellow cards during the second half, one in the fifty-second minute and the other in the sixty-eighth minute.
In the seventy-fifth minute, the Eagles broke through as Mazzioto scored to knot the game at 1-1.
"I thought we started bright," Montverde Academy head coach Robbie Aristodemo said. "And the blue card put us under the gun and so we're super proud of the girls to come back and tie the game in the last ten minutes down a man playing against a state championship caliber team. I though overall it was a good performance, we created a lot of chances in the game, and I thought we deserved something out of the game."
The Eagles are still unbeaten this season at 4-0-2 and return to action on Saturday afternoon for a match against Creekside High School at 1:00 pm.
