Montverde, Fla.— The Montverde Academy baseball team scored eight runs in the bottom of the second inning to take control and defeat Ridge Community School 12-1 on Wednesday evening.
After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the second, the Eagles put up an eight spot in the bottom half, before scoring three more in the third and one more in the fourth to pick up the win.
Japhet Rosado went 2-for-3 in the win with a double and two runs batted in, while Salvador Alvarez had a double, scored twice and drove in two runs. Justin Lopez and Jorge Bello had a double each for MVA. Lopez scored once and had two runs batted in, while Bello scored twice and drove in a run.
Matthew Heyl pitched four innings of relief to earn the win. He struck out nine batters and allowed two hits. He inherited a bases loaded jam in the second inning and struck out the side to keep Ridge at bay.
MVA is back in action on March 3rd when the travel to Hoover, Alabama to compete in the Alabama Showdown.
Prior to the varsity game, the MVA junior varsity team defeated Lyman High School 15-0.
