After winning the first two games in pool play, the Montverde Academy baseball team won its final two games of the week, defeating DeLand High School 6-4 on Thursday and Oviedo High School 5-3 on Friday to go 4-0 on the week in the Florida League High School Invitational in Sanford. The two wins upped the Eagles to 10-3 on the season.
In Thursday's win over DeLand, the Eagles fell behind 4-0 after DeLand scored four in the top of the fourth. MVA scored two in the bottom of the fourth and four in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead and win.
Salvador Alvarez led the way going 3-for-3 with a double and two runs batted in. Jorge Bello went 2-for-3 with a run, while Victor Martinez went 1-for-2 with a double, two runs and two runs batted in.
Brian Ehrlich went the distance and allowed four runs on five hits and struck out six in the complete game win.
Against Oviedo on Friday, Oviedo scored two runs in the bottom of the second to take a 2-0 lead. The Eagles tied it in the top of the third with two runs and took the lead for good with two more runs in the top of the fourth.
Bello went 2-for-3 with a run and a run batted in, while Alvarez went 2-for-3 with a double. Japhet Rosado went 1-for-3 with a run and two runs batted in.
Oscar Hernandez picked up the win after going 3.2 innings and allowing three (two earned) runs on seven hits, while striking out four. Matthew Heyl finished off the final 3.1 innings and allowed no runs on two hits.
The Eagles will now travel to Emerson, Georgia for a tournament. Their first opponent will be Bob Jones High School at 7:30 pm on Thursday.
