The Montverde Academy beach volleyball team won the Citrus League championship on Wednesday afternoon as the Eagles defeated The First Academy 5-0 in the semifinal round match, before earning a hard fought 3-2 win over Windermere Prep in the championship match.
After defeating The First Academy 5-0 in the semifinal round, the Eagles earned redemption after losing to Windermere Prep during the regular season. Three of the five matches went into a tie breaking set, with MVA winning two of those. In both of those matches, the Eagles lost the first set, before coming back to win the second and third sets. Team number three, Luiza Manata and Sophia Negron won 21-14 in the second set and 15-9 in the tie breaking set after losing 21-19 in set one. Team number four, Luiza Tanaka-Aranda and Catherine Emilcar lost 21-14 in the first set, before rallying back for a 21-15 win in the second set. Then in the third set, the duo won 16-14 to win the game.
