The Montverde Academy softball team lost a heartbreaker on Friday evening as the Eagles lost to The First Academy, 2-1 in nine innings, in the 2022 Citrus League softball championship at the Montverde Academy Athletic Complex Softball Field.

The First Academy scored an unearned run in the top of the ninth to break a 1-1 tie to win the game. The Eagles threatened in the bottom half of the ninth, with runners on second and third before the final out was recorded.

The game was scoreless into the fifth inning, when MVA got on the board. Jenna Meder ripped a single up the middle to score Nevaeh Williams to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Then in the top of the sixth inning, the Royals tied the score, eventually sending the game into extra innings, before The First Academy eventually won it.

The Eagles had four hits, including two each by Williams and Meder.

Williams suffered the loss in the circle. She started the game and pitched the first three innings as well as the final two for a total of 5.0 innings of work. She allowed one (unearned) run on one hit and struck out eight.
