The Montverde Academy softball team was defeated by Cornerstone Charter Academy on Wednesday evening, 6-2, in the quarterfinal round of the 2022 Florida High School Athletic Association regional championship.

With the loss, the Eagles have been eliminated from tournament play and their season ends with a 17-9 overall record.

In Wednesday's contest, the Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second on a sacrifice fly by Eva Rivera. But the Ducks rallied with two runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 2-1 lead. Cornerstone Charter Academy then added four more runs in the top of the seventh to lead 6-1 going into the bottom half of the last inning. The Eagles commenced a mild rally and scored once in the bottom of the seventh before the game ended.

Both teams amassed eight hits on the evening. Danika Spinogatti went 2-for-3 with a walk, while Rivera, Jenna Meder, Leila Susaia, Yani Guzman, Nevaeh Williams and Paris Ford had one hit each.

Williams suffered the loss, going 6.2 innings and allowing six runs on eight hits while striking out three.

The Eagles' end this season with a .301 team batting average and a team earned run average of 1.34.
