Girls' Volleyball Won Four of Five Matches at Florida Gem High School Classic

The Montverde Academy girls' volleyball team won four of five matches at the Florida Gem High School Classic in Wesley Chapel this past weekend. After going undefeated in three matches in pool play, the Eagles competed in the gold bracket and won their semifinal round match, before suffering their only loss in the championship game.

Ana Julia Peixoto had a team-high eight kills to help Montverde Academy win 2-0 (25-22, 25-14) over Sunlake High School in the first match of the weekend on Friday, September 9th.

Isabella Johnson had seven kills and a .545 attack percentage, while Bailey Hollis had seven assists and three service aces for the Eagles.

Evangeline DeClercq had a team-high four service aces for MVA.

MVA had a .360 attack percentage as a team.


Game 2 (Pool Play): Friday September 9 MVA won 2-0 (25-12, 25-16) over Lecanto High School

Ana Julia Peixoto had a team-high seven kills and a .545 attack percentage as Montverde Academy won 2-0 (25-12, 25-16) over Lecanto High School in pool play in Friday's second match for the Eagles.

Bailey Hollis and Isabella Johnson both had six kills (no errors) on nine attack attempts for a .667 attack percentage. Bailey Hollis also had two service aces.

Evangeline DeClercq and Luiza Manata had three service aces each. Manata also added seven digs.

Thalita Marangon had four kills, four digs and two blocks.

As a team, Montverde Academy had a .533 attack percentage.


Game 3 (Pool Play): Saturday September 10 MVA won 2-1 (19-25, 25-16, 15-6) over Osceola Fundamental

Montverde Academy girls' volleyball won their third game in the Florida Gem Classic over Osceola Fundamental 2-1 (19-25, 25-16,15-6) on Saturday September 10th to finish pool play undefeated..

Thalita Marangon and Ana Julia Peixoto led the way for MVA. Marangon had eight kills,10 digs and five service aces, while Peixoto had a team high 10 kills.

Taina de Lima Nunes led the team with 16 assists and two service aces, while Bailey Hollis had eight kills and 10 assists. Luiza Manata had a team-high 17 digs.


Game 4 (Gold bracket semifinal): September 10 MVA won 2-0 (25-19, 26-24) over Carrollwood Day School

In the gold bracket semifinal on Saturday, the Montverde Academy girls' volleyball team won 2-0 (25-19,26-24) over Carrollwood Day School, thanks to the help of Luiza Manata who had a team high 22 digs, and Bailey Hollis who had seven kills, eight assists, six digs and three blocks.

Ana Julia Peixoto also participated with seven kills and 11 digs as well as Gracie McClain who had 11 digs.

Evangeline DeClercq added two kills and three blocks.

Game 5 (Gold bracket championship): September 10 MVA lost 0-2 (14-25, 16-25) to Academy of Holy Names

Thalita Marangon had five kills and 13 digs during the gold bracket championship match, but  it wasn't enough to take the win against the Academy of Holy Names as they lost 0-2 (14-25, 16-25) in the tournament's final match on September 10th. 

Ana Julia Peixoto and Isabella Johnson had four kills each while Luiza Manata had a team-high 28 digs.

Gracie McClain helped Montverde Academy volleyball with 10 digs and two service aces.
