The defending state champion Montverde Academy girls' soccer team opened its season on Monday evening with a 9-1 win over host Auburndale High School.

Antonella Mazziotto netted three goals and had three assists. Estefania Gonzalez added two goals and had two assists. The Eagles also got one goal each from Joy Palacios, Lola Ressler and Amy Zona.

Taylor Deaver and Dahlia Ahern split the time in net to help earn the win.

MVA is back in action on Wednesday, November 8 for the 2023-24 home opener against Vero Beach High School at 6:00 pm.
