Montverde Academy girls' soccer team scored three goals in the final 20 minutes to break open a close game and win 4-0 over American Heritage in day one of the the Women's Invitational Showcase Tournament (WIST) on campus Friday evening.
The win improves MVA's overall record to 8-0-1 on the season.
The Eagles led 1-0 at halftime after an own goal by American Heritage gifted MVA with a 1-0 lead. Then in the latter stages of the second half Antonella Mazziotto connected on a penalty kick to make the score 2-0. Estefania Gonzalez scored shortly after to put MVA up 3-0, before Reese John netted a goal to wrap up the scoring.
MVA will play Bartram Trail School in day two at 12:00 pm on Saturday.
