MVA Girls’ Soccer Set to Host FHSAA State Semifinal Against Bolles

MONTVERDE, Fla.— The Montverde Academy girls' soccer team has blasted through the Florida High School Athletic Association district and regional championships to set the stage for the state semifinals for a chance to play for the state championship.

The Eagles will host Bolles School in a state semifinal round game on Friday, February 17 at 7:00 pm. If the Eagles win, they will play for the state championship on Wednesday, February 22 at 4:00 pm in DeLand, Florida against the winner between the other remaining two teams in the tournament, Benjamin and NSU University.

Montverde Academy enters the tournament with a 13-2-2 overall record. The Eagles defeated Tampa Catholic 3-1 in the regional championship on Tuesday, after defeating Berkeley Prep 3-0 in the regional semifinals. In the opening round of the regionals on February 7, MVA was an 8-0 winner over Fort Meade High School. Prior to that, the Eagles beat The First Academy 5-0 in the district championship on February 1 after beating Windermere Prep 6-0 in the semifinal round on January 27.

Montverde Academy is currently ranked No. 2 in the state and No. 1 in all of class 3A in girls' soccer. Antonella Mazziotto is the team's current leader in goals with 13, while fellow teammate Estefania Gonzalez has scored 12. Goalkeeper Genesis Perez Watson has made 45 saves while earning a 0.659 goals allowed average.

Bolles School meanwhile is ranked No. 55 in the state and No.9 in class 3A. The team is 15-6-3 overall this season, and the Bulldogs are led by Annalise Cannada with 26 goals and 13 assists.

Against common opponents, the Eagles are 2-0, while Bolles is 1-1 this season. Both teams were winners against Berkeley Prep. The Eagles' win came during the regional semifinal round, while Bolles beat them 1-0 on January 20 in a regular season game. The other common opponent was St. John Country Day. MVA earned a 1-0 victory against them on November 18, while Bolles suffered a 5-0 loss to them on January 12.
