Estefania Gonzalez netted a pair of goals and assisted on another to lift the Eagles to the Citrus League Championship as the Montverde Academy girls' soccer team defeated Bishop Moore 3-0 on Wednesday evening in chilly Montverde.
The Eagles, No. 1 seed in the Citrus League, played a fluid game throughout the contest and seemed to have the upper hand most of the evening.
MVA broke the scoreless tie midway through the first half on Gonzalez's first goal of the game.
Bishop Moore's closest opportunity to equalizing in the first half came on a loose ball in front of the net with just over two remaining that goalkeeper Taylor Deaver knocked out of the air.
After holding a 1-0 lead at halftime, the Eagles struck again five minutes into the second half on a goal by Antonella Mazziotto who received a pass from Gonzalez inside the box.
MVA scored again in the 55th minute via Gonzalez's second goal of the night to put the game out of reach.
The Citrus League championship win was the first for the girls' soccer team, who competed in the Citrus League for the first time in program history. The victory also marks the sixth overall Citrus League championship for Montverde Academy for the 2023-24 academic year.
The win was the eleventh overall this season for the Eagles, and they are now 11-3-1 on the year.
MVA has one more regular season game on Saturday at Ponte Vedra this Saturday at 12:00 pm, before the FHSAA state series playoffs next week.
