The Montverde Academy girls' volleyball team has earned the right to play for the regional championship as the Eagles defeated McKeel Academy 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-22) in the semifinal round of the 2024 Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Class 3A regional championship on Saturday at The Nest.
Mirea Thederahn played amazingly with 11 kills and 11 digs.
Meanwhile twin sisters Natalia Baquerizo and Bianca Baquerizo had phenomenal games as well. Both had seven kills each, while Natalia had two blocks, four digs and three service aces. Bianca added a block in the win.
Evy DeClercq had three kills in the win along with two digs.
Jayla Forbes had three kills and three blocks.
Vero Ruiz added a pair of service aces and 13 digs.
Kristina Vargas and Isabella Parra combined for 28 assists, with Vargas having 17 and Parra 11.
With the win, the Eagles (14-8) advance into the regional championship game for the first time since the 2019 season and will face the winner between No. 1 seed Lake Highland Prep and No. 4 seed The Villages on Tuesday, October 30 at 7:00 pm. If the opponent is Lake Highland Prep, the game will be at Lake Highland Prep. Should The Villages win, the game will be played at The Nest (check the schedule page for update).
