The Montverde Academy girls' soccer team is one step closer towards its third Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) 3A state championship as the Eagles beat the Dunedin High School Falcons in dominating fashion, 8-0 at Bishop Gates Field 1 on Tuesday night.
From kickoff, the Eagles started off strong having the majority of possession and connecting a string of passes that led to a few dangerous opportunities early on. They finally broke the deadlock after just under eight minutes played with a goal from Kendall Seays.
The goals kept coming quickly, and the Eagles were up 6-0 going into halftime, with Vienna Morgan, Dahlia Ahern, Isabella Igua, Penelope Gentry and Alessandra Jimenez all getting on the score sheet with one goal each. Defensively, the Eagles were very strong and kept Dunedin in their own half for the majority of the time
It was more of the same in the second half, with a patient buildup from the back, composure from the Eagles midfield, and the dangerous threat and pace of the forward players. Reese John and Luisa Tannus bagged a goal each to finish off the game before the hour mark, securing the mercy rule win.
Coach Robbie Aristidemo was pleased with his sides performance, stating that the swift victory was good momentum before Friday's matchup, and stating the importance of keeping a healthy squad.
"This was a good tune up for us, happy with the win, and I'm glad there is no injuries, and we keep trucking forward," Aristdemo said.
Jimenez was also happy with the teams' performance, and also looks forward to Friday's matchup.
"I thought it was a really good game for us…. A lot of good performances from different players," said.
Jimenez was a constant attacking threat down the wings , giving the Dunedin defenders a lot of problems through the entire game.
Another very impressive display from a strong Eagles side that continues to show their quality game after game.
They look to replicate this performance on Friday night at 7:00 against McKeel Academy in the regional semifinal round.
