New year, same results.
For the second year in a row, the Montverde Academy girls volleyball team opened its season against Windermere High School, with the same results, the Eagles winning a close five-set match.
MVA earned a 25-20 win in the first set, before falling 24-26 in the second set and 23-25 in the third set, before rallying back to win 25-16 in the fourth set to force a tiebreaking fifth set, which the Eagles won 15-12.
MVA, now 1-0 on the season, was led by Natalia Baquerizo with 20 kills to go along with eight digs and four service aces. Meanwhile, twin sister Bianca Baquerizo added 10 kills, five digs and four blocks. Mirea Thederahn added nine kills and 10 digs, while Gabi Carvalho had eight kills and six blocks. Kristina Vargas had 23 assists and 15 digs, while Isabella Parra had 22 assists and nine digs.
Earlier in the evening, the junior varsity team opened the day with a 2-0 (25-22, 25-20) win over Windermere High School.
The Eagles return to the court on Thursday for a home affair against George Jenkins High School. The junior varsity game gets underway at 4:30 pm, followed by the varsity game at 6:00 pm.
