The Montverde Academy girls volleyball team continued its strong run of form on Thursday evening, defeating Winter Haven 3-1 (18-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-15) at home. The victory marked the Eagles' fourth straight win and seventh in their last eight matches, improving their overall record to 12-4 on the season.
Bianca Baquerizo led the way with 13 kills and five digs, while twin sister Natalia Baquerizo turned in a standout two-way performance with eight kills, 16 digs, and three blocks.
Eva Bardales added 11 kills and eight digs, and Gabi Carvalho contributed nine kills with two block assists. The Eagles also controlled the back row with Nybia Rivera-Alvarez tallying 22 digs.
In the setter rotation, Isabella Parra dished out 20 assists and recorded two service aces, while Kristina Vargas finished with 16 assists and eight digs.
MVA will look to extend its winning streak on Tuesday, September 30, when the Eagles host Orangewood Christian. The junior varsity match begins at 4:30 p.m., followed by the varsity match at 6:00 p.m.
*Earlier in the evening, the junior varsity team earned a 2-1 (25-17, 18-25, 15-12) win over Winter Haven. Antonella Gonzalez had six kills and five digs, while Haya Ghanayem had six kills and six digs. Kendall Terrell had 14 digs in the win. The JV team is now 10-7 on the year.
