Montverde, Fla. (October 13, 2026) – Girls volleyball senior Kristina Vargas has been named the Student-Athlete of the Week for the second time this season after recording 48 assists, 14 digs and two service aces across two matches last week.
Vargas registered 23 assists, nine digs and one service ace in the Eagles' 3-1 home loss to Horizon on October 6. She followed with 25 assists, five digs and one service ace in MVA's five-set victory at Windermere High School in the regular season finale on October 7.
The Eagles finished the week 1-1 and closed the regular season with a 10-12 overall record against one of the most challenging schedules in the state of Florida.
Already MVA's all-time girls volleyball assists leader, Vargas is now just 30 assists away from becoming the first player in program history to reach 1,000 career assists. She claimed the school record earlier this season, surpassing the previous mark of 846 held by Aimee Stemples '21.
A senior in her third season on varsity, Vargas previously earned Student-Athlete of the Week recognition for the week ending September 6 after contributing 30 assists, 20 digs and three service aces in a five-set victory over Winter Park.
Vargas' involvement at MVA extends beyond the volleyball court. A native of Atenas, Costa Rica, who spent the first eight years of her life in Kenya, she participates in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, African Student Union and Hispanic Student Union. She aspires to become a chief executive officer.
With another weekly honor to her name and a historic milestone within reach, Vargas continues to add to her legacy in MVA girls volleyball.
**The Montverde Academy Student-Athlete of the Week award is sponsored by the 2026-27 Montverde Academy Booster Club.
