Montverde, Fla. (May 6, 2026) – Boys track & field team member Grant Williams has been named the Montverde Academy Student-Athlete of the Week after a historic performance at the Florida High School Athletic Association Class 2A State Championship last Thursday in Jacksonville.
Williams captured the gold medal in the boys pole vault competition, clearing a personal-best height of 4.50 meters to earn the state championship and cap off a dominant postseason run.
The victory completed a clean sweep of first-place finishes for Williams throughout the 2026 state series. He won the regional championship with a vault of 4.47 meters after previously claiming the district title with a height of 4.15 meters.
A senior, Williams has been a member of the Montverde Academy boys track & field program since ninth grade. Originally competing as a sprinter, he transitioned to pole vault during his sophomore season and steadily developed into one of the top vaulters in the state.
He qualified for the FHSAA State Championship meet in each of the last three years. He placed 15th at the state meet as a sophomore before improving to ninth place during his junior season. This year, he completed his progression to the top of the podium with his state title-winning performance.
Williams says his favorite part of the sport is achieving personal bests, something he accomplished on the biggest stage of the season at the state championship meet.
Away from competition, Williams aspires to become a doctor. He will be attending the University of South Florida in Tampa next year.
**The Montverde Academy Student-Athlete of the Week award is sponsored by the 2025-26 Montverde Academy Booster Club.
