Montverde, Fla. (May 6, 2026) – DaQuana Howell of the Montverde Academy girls track & field team has been named the Montverde Academy Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending May 3, following an outstanding performance at the FHSAA Class 2A Region 2 Championship.
Howell played a key role in the Eagles' continued dominance at the regional level, delivering an impressive showing against some of the state's top competition. She captured first place in the 200 meters with a winning time of 23.83 seconds, showcasing her speed and composure on one of the meet's biggest stages. Howell also turned in a strong performance in the highly competitive 100 meters, finishing fourth while recording a personal-best time of 11.95 seconds.
Her efforts were instrumental in helping MVA secure its fifth consecutive regional championship, further cementing the program's status as one of the premier track & field teams in the state.
Howell's success extends well beyond the outdoor season. During the indoor campaign, she was part of a historic relay team alongside Nakira Hudson, Dasia Reed, and Adriana Rodriguez. The quartet captured the national title in the 4x200-meter relay at the New Balance Indoor Nationals, setting a new national high school record with a time of 1:34.25.
A sophomore, Howell is an active member of the Caribbean Club and values the welcoming environment on campus. She credits the supportive and friendly community at MVA as one of the reasons she enjoys being a student-athlete at the school. Looking ahead, Howell has aspirations of pursuing a career in the medical field.
With her continued growth and success on the track, Howell remains a key contributor to the Eagles' championship pursuit as the postseason progresses.
