The Montverde Academy girls volleyball team opened its 2026 campaign on a positive note Saturday, picking up a pair of victories in preseason action.

The Eagles opened the day with a five-set victory over DME Academy, 3-2 (18-25, 25-18, 27-25, 16-25, 15-13), before defeating Vero Beach, 3-1 (22-25, 25-16, 25-16, 25-21).

While the preseason matches do not count toward MVA's regular-season record or rankings, the two victories provided the Eagles with an opportunity to compete together and build momentum heading into the regular season.

MVA enters the 2026 season with an experienced roster featuring eight seniors. The Eagles have captured the FHSAA district championship and advanced to the FHSAA regional championship match in each of the past two seasons. This year, the program remains focused on taking the next step and competing for an FHSAA state championship.

The regular season officially begins Tuesday when the Eagles travel to Lakeland to face McKeel Academy of Technology. Junior Varsity action begins at 5 p.m., followed by the Varsity match at 6:30 p.m.

Tuesday's Varsity contest will be a rematch of last season's FHSAA regional semifinal, when Montverde Academy defeated McKeel Academy of Technology, 3-1, to advance to the regional championship match.
