The Montverde Academy girls volleyball team extended its winning streak to four matches with a 3-0 victory at home over New Smyrna Beach High School on Tuesday evening.
The Eagles controlled the opening two sets, winning 25-16 and 25-19, before completing the sweep with a 25-23 victory in the third set. It marked MVA's second consecutive straight-set win.
Natalia Baquerizo led the Eagles with eight kills and three blocks, while twin sister Bianca Baquerizo added seven kills. Gabi Carvalho contributed five kills and two blocks.
Leticia Cordeiro recorded a team-high 12 assists, while Kristina Vargas finished with 11 assists and two service aces. Janiyah Miller delivered seven aces, including five consecutive aces to close out the second set. Miller also recorded one solo block and three block assists.
Defensively, Rosabella Palanti led MVA with eight digs.
With the victory, the Eagles improved to 5-1 overall.
In junior varsity action earlier in the evening, MVA fell to New Smyrna Beach in three sets, 25-23, 11-25 and 11-15. Leticia Rosa led the Eagles with five kills and three service aces.
Both MVA teams return to action Wednesday on the road against DeLand High School. The junior varsity match is scheduled for 5 p.m., followed by the varsity match at 6 p.m.
