August 20, 2020 (Montverde, FL) – Montverde Academy is pleased to announce that it has joined together with five other independent schools from around Central Florida to form The Citrus League, a competitive grouping for student-athletes in response to COVID-19. Joining the Academy in The Citrus League are Bishop Moore Catholic, Lake Highland Preparatory School, The First Academy, Trinity Preparatory School and Windermere Preparatory School.
All Schools in The Citrus League have committed to the following core health and safety values:
- Require all students (Middle and Upper/High School) to wear a mask during the day
- Standardized daily screening procedures (temperature checks and COVID-19 questionnaire)
- Facilitate competition only within The Citrus League to limit travel.
- Member schools will be paired with a different league opponent on a weekly rotation.
- Commit to uphold uniform event management protocols.
- Utilize the recommendations and guidance of The Citrus League Medical Task Force.
"Our Montverde Academy community is excited about the opportunities that joining The Citrus League can have on our fall student-athletes and their ability to continue to compete at a high level," said Montverde Academy Head of School Dr. Kasey Kesselring. "The League's core health and safety values was a key factor in decision making as we work to reduce health risks while providing a path for student-athletes to compete."
In the days ahead, the Academy will be providing further updates for the fall sports (Cross Country, Golf, Swimming, and Girls Indoor Volleyball) season, which will include information on official start dates, restructured competition, and safety protocols.
"Our focus is on the safety of our school community and we truly appreciate your patience and continued support of MVA Athletics," said Montverde Academy Director of Athletic Operations Khrystal Phiri.
