Girls’ Volleyball Battles Past Windermere Prep in District Semifinal Round

Ana Julia Peixoto with 19 kills and Thalita Marangon with nine kills led The Montverde Academy girls' volleyball team to a win against Windermere Prep by a score of 3-1 (21-25, 25-17, 25-19, 25-22) on Tuesday's home district semifinal round match.


During the first set, The Montverde Academy led the game 6-1. Later, Windermere Prep tied the score 7-7. The game was intense, back and forth. Montverde Academy requested a time-out (18-22), But that didn't stop Windermere Prep from winning the first point of the game.

In the second set, the score between the two teams was still very tight. In the final stages of the set, the referee changed the score by eliminating one point from Windermere Prep and added one point to Montverde Academy on a call change. After a Bailey Hollis kill, The Windermere Prep requested a Time Out (20-17) and requested another time out on the next point (21-17). Montverde Academy took the second set scoring five in a row and won the set 25-17.

In the third set, Windermere Prep led 9-3, and then MVA requested a time out and then the Eagles got back to tie the score 9-9. Ultimately, Montverde Academy won the set after a kill by Peixoto and the score was 25-19. In the fourth set, the Montverde Academy takes the set 25-22 to win the match.

"It was definitely a more emotional game tonight as I expected. I know going further playoff is all going to on their emotion, so good practice for us," MVA head coach Jola Graham said.

As the Montverde Academy won this game, they will have a game against Lake Highland Prep on Thursday at 6 pm for the district championship.

"It was not an easy game. We have to work hard for the next game," Marangon said.
