Montverde, Fla.— The Montverde Academy baseball team opened its 2022 spring season with a dominating performance, beating Ocoee High School 11-0 at Lindor Field on Tuesday evening.

After a scoreless two innings, the Eagles broke the game open with four runs in the third, another in the fourth and four more in the fifth to lead 9-0 after five frames. A walk-off two run homer by Eric Correa in the bottom of the sixth, officially gave Montverde Academy the win via the 10-run mercy rule.

Correa went 2-for-4 with a home run, a triple, three runs batted and scored twice, while Alexis Goytia went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two runs batted in. Justin Lopez went 2-for-3 in the win with a double, a triple, two runs and two runs batted in.

Matthew Heyl pitched 5.0 shutout innings, scattering two hits. Yulian Batista pitched the final inning, allowing no runs on two hits.

Montverde Academy returns to action on Thursday for a home game against Foundation Academy at 7:00 pm.
