Softball Earns Two Convincing Wins at Oakleaf Preseason Tournament

The Montverde Academy softball team earned a pair of wins this past Saturday as the Eagles beat Keystone Heights High School 11-1, before knocking off University Christian 10-4 at the Oakleaf Preseason Tournament.

In the win over Keystone Heights, the Eagles broke a 1-1 tie with nine runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 10-1 lead en route to victory.

The pitching duo of Faith Fournier and Emerson Gunkel combined to allow just five hits and one (unearned) run.

At the plate, Jenna Meder went 3-for-3 with a double, a walk, a run and two runs batted in. Meanwhile Paris Ford was 1-for-3 with a double, a run and four runs batted in. Makayla Navarro went 1-for-4 with a run and two runs batted in.

In the win over University Christian, the Eagles fell behind 1-0 after the first half inning, but MVA scored two in the bottom of the first, followed by four in the second and three in the third to take a 9-1 lead after three innings.

Yani Guzman went 3-for-4 with a run and a run batted in, while Paris Ford was 2-for-4 with a run batted in.

In the circle, Fournier and Gunkel struck out 11 batters and allowed four (two earned) runs.

MVA regular season gets underway on Wednesday with a game at Windermere Prep at 4:00 pm. The Eagles first home game is next Tuesday, March 1st against Bishop Moore at 6:00 pm.
