The Montverde Academy softball team opened its 2022 regular season with a win over Citrus League foe Windermere Prep on Wednesday, beating the Lakers 5-2 in Windermere.

After falling behind 2-0 early, the Eagles scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning to take the lead en route to win. MVA added another run in the top of the sixth in the season opening win.

Leila Susaia went 1-for-4 with a pair of runs batted in in the win, while Yani Guzman went 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Faith Fournier had two hits and drove in a run for MVA, while Paris Ford added a hit and scored a run.

Fournier earned the win in the circle, pitching 7.0 innings allowing two runs (both unearned) on four hits while striking out nine.

MVA is back in action on Tuesday, March 1st for its 2022 home opener against Bishop Moore, with first pitch scheduled for 6:00 pm.
