The Montverde Academy softball team returned to the field after spring break on Tuesday evening and defeated Lyman High School 5-0 in Longwood to improve to 9-1 on the season.
It was the second shutout of the season for the Eagles. Nevaeh Williams and Emerson Gunkel combined for 7.0 shutout innings and allowed four hits (two each) and seven strikeouts (six by Williams). Williams started the contest and pitched 5.0 innings, while Gunkel finished off the game and preserved the shutout.
At the plate, Makayla Navarro was 3-for-4 with a run, while Yani Guzman went 2-for-4 with a double, an inside the park homerun and four runs batted in. In addition to her great pitching, Williams went 2-for-3 at the plate.
