The Montverde Academy softball team defeated Trinity Prep 7-0 in Winter Park on Monday afternoon.
The win improved the Eagles to 11-3 this season and 4-0 in Citrus League play.
The Eagles jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a two-run homer by Yani Guzman. From there, MVA scored another run in the third, followed by another in the fifth to lead 4-0 after four and a half innings. The Eagles scored three more in the seventh to go up seven and it proved to be more than enough run support for Emerson Gunkel. Gunkel pitched a complete game shutout, allowing just one hit while striking out seven.
At the plate, Guzman went 2-for-2 with a home run and three runs batted in. Makayla Navarro went 2-for-4 in the win, while Skai Albury went 1-for-2 with a double and a run batted in.
