Montverde Academy's Skai Albury blasted a two out, two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning to win it for the Eagles, as MVA defeated Hagerty High School 3-1 at the MVA softball field on Tuesday evening.
With Nevaeh Williams on second base and the count full, Albury took the pitch and sent it into the Montverde night into deep right-center field to send the fans home happy. The win improved MVA softball to 12-3 on the year.
The score broke a 1-1 tie in what was a pitcher's duel most of the night. Hagerty scored a run in the top of the third to take a 1-0 lead, before the Eagles tied it in the bottom half. A two-out double by Danika Spinogatti scored Colby Reish to make the score 1-1. Neither team would score until Albury's blast ended it.
The Eagles belted 11 hits and were led by Williams who went 4-for-4 with a double and a run, while Reish went 3-for-4 with a run.
Not only was Williams stellar at the plate, she was equally as brilliant in the circle as she picked up the win after pitching 8.0 innings and allowing a run on seven hits, while striking out three.
