The Montverde Academy softball team defeated The First Academy 9-5 at the MVA softball field on Wednesday evening.
With the win, the Eagles improved to 13-3 overall and finished the Citrus League regular season with a perfect 5-0 record. MVA will be the top seed for the Citrus League playoffs on Friday, April 22.
In Wednesday's win, MVA led early and was up 4-1 after three innings. But the visiting Royals scored four runs in the top of the fourth inning to take the lead. The Eagles tied the game with a run in the bottom of the fourth, and the score remained tied into the bottom of the sixth inning. In the sixth inning, the Eagles scored four runs to take the lead en route to victory.
Nevaeh Williams had a big game. In the circle, she picked up the win in relief after going 3.2 innings and allowing two (unearned) runs on three hits while striking out four. She improved to 4-0 on the season. At the plate, she went 2-for-4 with two runs and two runs batted in. Her two runs batted in were the game winners, when she took an 0-2 pitch and singled to right field to score Leila Susaia and Yani Guzman in the bottom of the sixth.
In addition to Williams, Skai Albury had a big game going 3-for-4 with a double and four runs batted in. Guzman went 3-for-4 and was a home run shy of batting for the cycle. She scored three times and drove in a run. Faith Fournier and Colby Reish also added two hits each.
