The No. 3 seed Montverde Academy girls' basketball team is headed to the championship after the Eagles defeated No. 2 seed DME Academy 67-54 in the semifinal round of the 2022 GEICO National Tournament in Fort Myers on Friday morning.
The win improved the Eagles to 19-3 overall this season, and MVA will play for the championship on Saturday at 10 am against No. 1 seed New Hope, who defeated IMG Academy in its semifinal round game.
The Eagles were led by Mjracle Sheppard with 18 points, while grabbing six rebounds, handing out four assists and taking four steals in the win. Janiah Barker added 13 points and seven rebounds for MVA, while Fernanda Ovalle added 12 points.
MVA led the entire game and was up by as much as 14. The Eagles shot 44 percent from the floor (24-for-55).
