The Montverde Academy boys' lacrosse team defeated Lake Highland Prep 12-11 in the quarterfinal round of the 2022 Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Regional Championship on Wednesday evening.
With the win, the Eagles, who are the No. 6 seed in the eight team regional, advance into the semifinal round of the tournament, and the Eagles earned payback for the loss to the Highlanders in the District Championship last Thursday.
Despite the close game, the game was a game of runs. The Eagles led 10-4 at halftime, before the Lake Highland Prep outscored MVA 7-2 over the final twenty-four minutes to almost pull it out.
Spencer Odier led the Eagles with four goals, while Coen Woodland added three in the win. Seth Isenhour and Jack Green scored two goals each, while Zach Hobson added one. Hobson also picked up a game-high six groundballs.
Eddie Roth made nine saves for the Eagles.
Montverde Academy will now face No. 2 seed Holy Trinity Episcopal next Wednesday at 7:00 pm on the campus of Holy Trinity Episcopal in Melbourne. Trinity Episcopal defeated No. 7 seed Bishop Moore 9-5 in their regional quarterfinal round game.
