Montverde, Fla.—The Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) has announced the brackets for its inaugural beach volleyball district tournaments, and Montverde Academy has earned the No. 2 seed for District 12.
The Eagles will face No. 3 Apopka High School on Tuesday, April 26 at 1:00 pm on the campus of Montverde Academy. If the Eagles defeat Apopka, they advance into the district championship and will play the winner of the match between No. 1 seed West Orange High School and No. 4 seed Ocoee High School. The championship match is scheduled for Wednesday, April 27 at 5:00 pm. All tournament matches for the district playoffs will be contested at the Montverde Academy beach volleyball complex.
Montverde Academy earned the No. 2 seed after a regular season that saw them go 9-5 overall and win the 2022 Citrus League championship. The Eagles have twice faced Apopka High School this season and won both times. MVA defeated Apopka 3-2 on March 22 and 4-1 in a rematch at Apopka on March 30. Against the other district foes, the Eagles went a combined 1-2. They beat Ocoee 5-0 on March 9, but lost to top seeded West Orange twice, both 3-2 defeats, including a home loss on March 9 and at West Orange on April 5.
Luiza Manata has led the team in wins this season, holding an 11-3 overall record, including six wins at No. 2, four wins at No.3 and one win at No. 1. Gianna Carrasco, meanwhile has earned a 9-4 record, while playing at No. 2 all season. Catherine Emilcar, Thalita Marangon and Luiza Tanaka-Aranda all have eight wins for the Eagles this season.
If the Eagles win the district championship, they will advance into the regional play-in match on Monday May 2. Should they advance, they will compete in the state championship series in Tallahassee on the campus of Florida State University on May 6 and 7.
