The Montverde Academy softball team closed out its 2022 regular season with a loss as the Eagles were defeated by Apopka High School 7-3 on Thursday evening.
The loss drops MVA to 15-8 this season.
The Eagles will now turn their attention forward as MVA has earned the No. 1 seed for the 2022 Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) district tournament and will play on Tuesday in the semifinal round against the winner of the play-in game between Trinity Prep and Lake Highland Prep.
In Thursday's game, Jenna Meder, Yani Guzman and Danika Spinogatti had three hits each for the Eagles. Spinogatti added two runs batted in and scored a run. Eva Rivera went 1-for-2 and scored a run.
Faith Fournier suffered the loss after going 3.0 innings and allowing four runs (two earned) on two hits. Nevaeh Williams pitched 3.0 innings in relief and allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits and struck out three.
