Montverde Academy girls' basketball player Rusne Augustinaite has had quite a winning year. On top of helping the Montverde Academy girls' basketball to its first ever GEICO High School Nationals championship, she recently helped her native country of Lithuania to a gold medal as she was a part of the team who took gold at the 2022 FIBA U18 European Championship held in Izmir, Turkey from August 6 through the 14.
Augustinaite helped Team Lithuania to a 6-1 overall record in the competition, including a 78-75 win over Spain in the championship game. Competing in Pool C, the team lost its first game against Finland, before beating Sweden and Hungary to advance into the round of 16. In tournament play, Lithuania defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina in the round of 16 before downing Czech Republic in the quarterfinal round. In the semifinal round, Augustinaite and her teammates beat Germany to set the stage for the championship showdown with Spain.
In the seven games, Augustinaite logged 179 minutes and averaged 11.6 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. She scored a team-high 18 in the win over Sweden, and a personal high of 21 during the win over Hungary. Â
Earlier this year, Augustinaite helped the Eagles to its first ever GEICO High School National championship.
