Derik Queen scored 10 of his 17 points in the first quarter and Sean Stewart scored a game-high 20 points for Montverde Academy as the Eagles defeated Winter Haven High School 99-61 in the Nest on Wednesday evening.
MVA led from start to finish. The Eagles opened the game on a 10-2 run and led comfortably throughout. MVA led 26-16 after the first quarter, and the Eagles were up 61-33 at halftime.
Five players scored in double figures in the win. In addition to Stewart and Queen, Liam McNeeley notched double figures with 16 points, Asa Newell added 13 and Chris Johnson scored 12.
The win improves the Eagles to 12-2 overall this season and winners of four in a row.
Montverde Academy is back in action on Saturday for National Interscholastic Basketball Conference (NIBC) Hoophall in Springfield, Massachusetts. The Eagles will face La Lumiere at 4:30 pm.Â
