Four players scored double-figures to help the Montverde Academy boys' basketball team to a 97-51 win over Calvary Christian at the Nest on Monday evening.
Sean Stewart, Asa Newell, Cooper Flagg and Derik Queen all notched double figures with Stewart scoring a team-high 20 points, Flagg adding 19, Newell knocking in 12 and Queen adding 10 for the Eagles.
Flagg also had three assists and a team-high three blocked shots in the win, while Newell added 12 points and a team-high five assists. Queen grabbed a team-high eight rebounds for MVA.
After a close first quarter, the Eagles outscored Calvary Christian 20-7 in the pivotal second quarter to turn a 20-14 end of first quarter advantage into a 40-21 lead by halftime. MVA increased the lead in the third quarter and led 65-34 after three periods of play. The Eagles then closed out the game with an impressive 32 point fourth quarter to solidify the 46-point win.
MVA shot an impressive sixty-two percent from the floor (38-for-62), including a forty-five percent clip from behind the three-point line (9-for-20).
The win improves MVA to 16-2 overall this season, and the victory was the Eagles' eighth in a row.
MVA returns to action on Thursday for the first day of the 2023 Montverde Academy Invitational Tournament (MAIT) where the Eagles will take on Westminster Academy at 7:15 pm in the Nest.
