Montverde, Fla.— After finishing 8-5 in the regular season, the Montverde Academy boys' lacrosse team is set to do battle against the best district has to offer as the Eagles do battle in the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) district championship tournament.
The Eagles earned the No. 2 seed and a first round bye and will now face No. 3 seed Bishop Moore High School in the district semifinal round on Tuesday, April 11 at 7:00 pm at the Montverde Academy Athletic Complex. Bishop Moore defeated Foundation Academy on Monday in the quarterfinal round for the right to face MVA in the semifinal round. If the Eagles defeated Bishop Moore, they advance into the district championship game on Thursday, April 13 to play the winner between No. 1 seed Lake Highland Prep and No. 4 seed Trinity Prep. If the Eagles play Lake Highland Prep, the game will be played at Lake Highland Prep. However, should the championship game be against Trinity Prep, MVA will host the game.
One of the Eagles eight wins includes a victory against Bishop Moore when MVA downed the Hornets 18-9 on February 23. MVA also defeated their possible championship game opponent, Trinity Prep 16-5 in the season opener on February 14. The Eagles' other possible championship game opponent Lake Highland Prep defeated the Eagles 16-6 on March 1.
Statistically, senior Coen Woodland has led the team in goals with 55, followed by Seth Isenhour with 38. Isenhour has led the team lead in assists with 29 and total points with 67 (38 goals, 29 assists). As a team, the Eagles have scored 168 goals this season and have allowed 124. Sophomore goalkeeper Andrew Chehansky has logged the majority of the time in net and has made 100 saves facing 212 total shots.
Should the Eagles win the district championship, they will receive an automatic bid into the FHSAA Region 2 championship tournament which starts on Friday, April 21.
