Four players scored one goal each to lift the Montverde Academy girls soccer team to a 4-2 season opening win over Auburndale High School at Dan Newlin Injury Attorney Stadium on Monday night.
The action began in the fifth minute, when Luisa Tannus scored the first goal, with an assist by Kendall Seays.
After the visiting Bloodhounds tied the game with a goal in the thirteenth minute of play, the Eagles quickly retook the lead on a goal by Vienna Morgan in the fifteenth minute.
The just a few minutes later, the Eagles went ahead 3-1 when Seays found the net off a double assist by Riley Davison and Alessandra Jimenez.
In the second half, the Eagles increased their lead to 4-1 when Jimenez put one in the net in the fifty-fourth minute, with an assist by Joy Palacios.
Auburndale managed to add one more goal in the latter stages of the game, but the Eagles held firm
Goalkeeper Alyssa Strausbaugh made one save for the Eagles, as Montverde Academy held an overwhelming 25-4 advantage on total shots. The Eagles pressure in the Auburndale end resulted in Montverde Academy taking seven corner kicks in the game.
Now 1-0-0 on the season, Montverde Academy will look to carry its momentum into its next game on Thursday, November 7, when the Eagles play at Hagerty High School at 7:00 pm.
