Montverde, Fla. (May 15, 2024)—Montverde Academy Department of Athletics has announced that girls track & field team member Michelle Smith has been named the Montverde Academy Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending May 12.
Smith dazzled last week collecting three overall wins in Montverde Academy's dominant win at the 2024 Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) regional championship meet.
The senior University of Georgia commit set a new MVA record for fastest 100 meter hurdles by winning in a time of 13.90 seconds at the regional championship. She also earned a win in the 400 meter hurdles at the regional championship in a time of 57.07 seconds. She also teamed with fellow roster members Alivia Williams, Nakira Hudson and Dasia Reed to win the 4 x 400 relay.
Smith's performance helped the Eagles earn 161 points in the regional championship, which was 97.5 more than the second place team.
Smith dominated the high school track landscape. During indoor season, she was a part of the relay team that won the New Balance national championship, and in her three year career at MVA, the US Virgin Islands native has amassed 33 first place finishes, including a top finisher in the 300 meter hurdles in the 2022 state championship meet.
Smith and the rest of the MVA girls track & field team return to action on Thursday for the state championship meet in Jacksonville on the campus of the University of North Florida.
