Two members of the Montverde Academy state champion track & field team were recognized by the Orlando Sentinel.
Girls track & field team members Alivia Williams and Dasia Reed were recognized by the newspaper as the duo both earned a spot on the all-area team for the 2024 track & field season.
Williams had an amazing season, and played a pivotal role in the Eagles winning the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) state championship for the first time in program history. The recent alum, who will be headed to the University of Iowa next season, won all nine races she was entered during the FHSAA state championship season (district, regional and state). Overall, she won 15 of the 18 races she was entered in this outdoor season, including going undefeated at the 400 meter distance.
At the 400 meter distance, she was a perfect 6-for-6, never losing all season. She ran a personal best time of 52.30 seconds in her win at the Pepsi Florida Relays on March 30. She won four of five races at the 200 meter distance this year, including a 23.67 time at the Florida State Relays on March 23. Williams was also a part of three 4 x 400 relay teams and won each time.
Reed, meanwhile earned wins in a combined seven events this year, with five of them coming during the FHSAA state series meets (districts, regional, states).Â
The rising tenth grader won the state championship at the 100 meter distance in 11.92 seconds and was a part of the 4 x 400 relay team with Williams (Michelle Smith, Ellise Dickinson) which won in a time of 3:40.75.Â
Reed also won the 100 meter dash in 11.74 seconds at the regional championship in Mount Dora on May 7, after winning the 100 meter dash in 11.96 seconds at the district championship on April 30 in Winter Park.
