The Montverde Academy girls volleyball team has earned the No. 2 seed for the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Regional Playoffs and will host No. 7 seed Keystone Heights High School in the quarterfinal round on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. inside the Nest.
Should the Eagles advance, they will host the semifinal round at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, facing the winner between No. 3 seed McKeel Academy of Technology and No. 6 seed Newberry High School.
If MVA wins the semifinal round, the regional championship would be on the line Tuesday October 28 either at No. 1 seed Lake Highland Prep in a rematch of last year's regional final, or at home against No. 4 seed Astronaut High School, No. 5 seed The Villages Charter, or No. 8 seed Taylor High School.
Montverde Academy has already faced and defeated several of its potential opponents this season. The Eagles beat Lake Highland Prep 3-0 at home on October 2, McKeel Academy in four sets on September 2, The Villages twice—including a 3–0 win on October 16 to claim the district championship and a 3-0 sweep over Taylor High School in the district semifinals on October 14.
MVA enters the regional championship with a 17–5 overall record. The team has been powered by a balanced attack led by Natalia Baquerizo, who has recorded 192 kills this season, Isabella Parra leads the Eagles with 35 aces and 345 assists. Gabi Carvalho has a team-best 51 blocks, and Nybia Rivera-Alvarez has anchored the back row with 215 digs.
Montverde Academy is seeking its first regional championship since 1987.
