Montverde Academy girls soccer continued its impressive start to the season with a 2-0 victory over defending Mississippi state champion Northwest Rankin on Friday evening in day two of the Mississippi Showcase in Perkinston, Mississippi.
The Eagles got a goal by Lola Rey, with an assist from Brianna Burkhalter. MVA's other score was an own goal as Northwest Rankin accidently put the ball into its own net.
Defensively, the Eagles stayed sharp, allowing just one shot on goal all game. Starting goalkeeper Alyssa Strausbaugh recorded one save to secure the clean sheet.
With the win, MVA improves to 6-0-1 on the season. The Eagles return to action on Saturday for the third and final game of its Mississippi trip, taking on Clinton High School at 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
