Moss Crowned State Champion as Cross Country Shine at FHSAA State Championship

Montverde Academy boys cross country standout Will Moss delivered a historic performance on Saturday, winning the 2025 Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Class 2A State Championship at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee. Moss crossed the line in 15:35.30, becoming just the second boys cross country state champion in MVA history and the first since Richard Simolari in 1992.

His dominant run places him among the all-time greats in the program's history and caps off a remarkable season of consistency, poise, and championship-level racing.

Moss wasn't the only Eagle competing on the boys side. Teammate Salvatore Scelfo turned in a strong performance of his own, finishing 68th overall out of 236 runners in a time of 17:28.5, contributing to a memorable day for the boys program.

Girls Team Places 9th in Deep State Championship Field

The girls team delivered one of its most complete performances of the season, finishing ninth overall out of 33 teams in a highly competitive state championship field.

Lyla McMillen led the way with an impressive 16th-place finish out of 243 runners, clocking a time of 19:15.3 to pace the Eagles. Close behind her was Alafair Scelfo, who continued her strong postseason form by placing 28th overall in 19:40.3.

Federica Perez stepped up with a top-70 finish, placing 69th in 20:44.4, while Amaris Munya and Alon Scelfo rounded out the scoring five, finishing 136th (22:05.8) and 142nd (22:14.9), respectively.

The Eagles also received solid efforts from Samantha Schulze (188th, 23:20.3) and Zara Liles-Henry (213th, 24:15.2), both contributing valuable depth in the team's postseason push.

A Historic Day for Montverde Academy Cross Country

Moss's individual state title and the girls' top-10 team finish highlight a banner day for Montverde Academy cross country. The program continues to rise on both the boys and girls sides, showcasing elite talent, depth, and steady improvement throughout the fall.

The Eagles end the 2025 season with a state champion, a top-10 girls team finish, and a wealth of momentum moving into the future.
