Montverde, Fla. — Day one of the 2025 Nike EYBL Scholastic Sunshine Classic presented by Fountain Auto Group delivered a pair of exciting, hard-fought matchups on Friday evening at Montverde Academy's Edge Center for Sportsmanship and Wellness (The Nest), as Dream City Christian and Wasatch Academy both opened tournament play with impressive wins.
Game 1: Dream City Christian 62, Tennessee Collegiate Academy 60
Dream City Christian survived a late push from Tennessee Collegiate Academy to claim a 62-60 victory in the opening game of the Sunshine Classic.
Dream City Christian's Malachi Jordan led all scorers with 22 points on an efficient 7-of-11 shooting night, including a perfect 3-for-3 from behind the three-point line. Teammate Ikenna Alozie added 14 points, seven rebounds, and four assists, while Kendyn Grant provided a big lift off the bench with 12 points by connecting on 4-of-5 attempts from long range. Chris Brown finished with seven points and posted game highs of nine rebounds and four blocks.
Tennessee Collegiate grabbed early momentum and built a 14-7 lead by the end of the first quarter. Dream City Christian answered with its own 21-14 run in the second period to tie the contest 28-28 by halftime.
Dream City Christian seized control in the third period by outscoring Tennessee Collegiate 21-12 in the critical decisive third quarter, creating the separation needed to hold on in the final minutes.
Mason Williams led Tennessee Collegiate with 19 points, while Christian Gibson chipped in 13 points and eight rebounds.
Game 2: Wasatch Academy 68, Montverde Academy 59
Wasatch Academy used balanced scoring and strong all-around play to secure a 68-59 victory over host Montverde Academy in the nightcap.
Adolph County led a well-rounded offensive attack for the Tigers with 14 points, six rebounds, and five assists. Chidi Nwigwe added 12 points, while Katrelle Harmon and Mana Wintana each scored 11 points, with Wintana providing a key scoring spark off the bench. Vuk Lazarevic pulled down a team-high eight rebounds for Wasatch Academy.
Montverde Academy was led by Dhani Miller, who finished with a game-high 19 points and a team co-high eight rebounds. Jayden Hodge followed with 16 points on 8-for-10 shooting and also collected eight rebounds, while Oneal Delancy added 10 points off the bench.
Both teams scored 38 points in the paint, while Wasatch Academy held a slim 17-12 advantage in points off the bench.
