Day Three of MAIT Results

Game 9 (7th place game): Riviera Prep defeated Windermere Prep 68-65

Riviera Prep defeated Windermere Prep 68-65 in the seven place game in Roberts Gym on Saturday afternoon.

Laron Mack led Riviera Prep with 24 points, while Brandon Bass, Jr. led Windermere Prep with 28.


Game 10 (5th place game): AZ Compass defeated Sagemont Prep 73-66

AZ Compass defeated Sagemont Prep 73-66 at the Edgecenter for Sportsmanship and Wellness in the fifth place game.

The Dragons were led by Davis Fogle with 18 points, six rebounds and five assists, while teammate Jacob Vance added 16 points off the bench. Jeremiah Green added 13 points and nine assists in the win, and Kalek House added 11.

Matthew Able scored a game-high 27 points and grabbed a game-high seven rebounds for Sagemont Prep.

AZ Compass led from start to finish, outscoring the Lions 24-15 in the first quarter, before holding a 39-32 lead by halftime.

The size of AZ Compass proved important for the Dragons who held a 34-23 advantage in rebounding and a 32-12 advantage on points in the paint.
 

Game 11 (3rd place game): Calvary Christian defeated Utah Prep 64-57

Calvary Christian defeated Utah Prep in the third place game of the MAIT tournament on Saturday afternoon in Montverde.

Calvary Christian was led by Shon Abaev with a game-high 32 points, along with three steals and two blocks. Teammate Collin Paul added a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds. KJ Francis added 10 points and eight rebounds for the winning team.

Utah Prep was led by AJ Dybantsa with 19 points, while Anthony Felesi had a double-doiuble of 14 points and 13 rebounds.

The game was evenly matched throughout with neither team leading by more than seven. The game saw 11 lead changes and four ties.

Both teams shot 43 percent from the field, had 36 points in the paint each and scored 11 ponts off turnovers each. Calvary Christian held the slightest of margains in second chance points 15-13.

The rebounding was also close with Utah Prep holding a narrow 33-32 advantage, with both teams grabbing 10 offensive rebounds each.

Game G3: Montverde Academy defeated Newman 89-57

The Montverde Academy girls basketball team swept its three games in conjunction with the MAIT tournament as the Eagles defeated Newman High School 89-57 on Saturday.

Saniyah Hall scored a game-high 21 in the win to go along five rebounds, five assists, four steals and three blocks. Fellow teammate Aaliyah Crump added 19 (including five three point field goals) with three assists and three steals. Amaia Jackson had eight points and 11 assists, while Jayla Forbes grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.

The Eagles shot 60 percent from the floor (33-for-57) and held a 42-10 advantage on points in the paint, 17-0 on second chance points and 12-0 on fast break points. The Eagles also held an overwhelming 40-18 rebounding advantage.

MVA led 23-16 after the first quarter and held a 24-11 advantage in the second quarter to lead 47-27 at the break en route to the win.

Game 12 (Championship Game): Montverde Academy defeated CIA Bella Vista 51-48

In front of a capacity crowd for the MAIT championship, Montverde Academy won a thriller over CIA Bella Vista, 51-48.

Before the student section stormed the court in celebration, the Eagles and Bears fought to the final possession.

Montverde Academy held the lead all first half, but CIA Bella Vista came back to tie and eventually take the lead going into the fourth quarter. The game changed leads five times, before the Eagles wrestled the lead away for good on a foul shot by CJ Ingram. Then a three point field goal by Hudson Greer with thirty-seven seconds to go put MVA up by four, en route to the win.

Greer had a team-high 16 points in the win, while Dante Allen had 10 and was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.

Miles Sadler led CIA Bella Vista with 18 points in a losing cause.
