Montverde, FL (February 5, 2025) – The Montverde Academy girls soccer team is set to continue its quest for the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Class 3A state championship after earning the No. 1 seed for the FHSAA Class 3A Region 2 championship. By securing the top seed, Montverde Academy will have home-field advantage throughout the regional tournament.
The Eagles will open regional play against No. 8 seed Dunedin High School on Tuesday, February 11, at 7:00 p.m. on campus. Should they advance, they will host the semifinal round on Friday, February 14, at 7:00 p.m. against the winner between No. 4 seed McKeel Academy and No. 5 seed Calvary Christian.
The regional championship game is scheduled for Tuesday, February 19, at 7:00 p.m. The potential opponents for that game include No. 2 seed Lake Highland Prep, No. 3 seed Academy of the Holy Names, No. 6 seed Cocoa Beach, and No. 7 seed The Villages Charter.
Montverde Academy secured the No. 1 seed after a thrilling district championship win over Lake Highland Prep on January 28. Following scoreless regulation and overtime periods, the Eagles triumphed 3-0 in penalty kicks to claim the title.
With a dominant 17-1-0 record this season, Montverde Academy has been led offensively by Luisa Tannus, who has netted 17 goals. Lola Rey follows with 8 goals, while Vienna Morgan leads the team with 7 assists. Goalkeeper Alyssa Strausbaugh has been a cornerstone of the team's defense, starting in 17 games and helping the Eagles remain undefeated at 17-0 in those matches. She has recorded an impressive 12 shutouts.
Should the Eagles win the regional, they will vy for their third straight state championship, which will be held at Spec Martin Stadium in DeLand starting with the semifinal round on Tuesday, February 25 and the championship on Friday, February 28.
