Montverde Academy pitchers La'Breah Sands and Nevaeh Williams combined to allow no runs on no hits while striking out 10 to lead the Eagles to victory as Montverde Academy beat Wakulla High School 2-0 on a neutral site in Eustis on Tuesday evening.
Sands started the game, struck out three batters and walked two before giving way to Williams who struck out seven and preserved the no-no as the No. 2 nationally ranked Eagles improved to 9-0 on the season.
The Eagles scored a run in the top of the fourth and another in the top of the fifth in the win.
Addie Poe broke the scoreless tie, leading off the top of the fourth inning with a solo home run to center field. Then Luna Taboas hit a line drive double in the fifth inning to score Audrey Vivino to make the score 2-0.
Poe led the way at the plate for the Eagles going 2-for-3 with the home run, while Taboas was 1-for-3 with a double and a run batted in. Williams also helped her cause at the plate, getting a hit in her only plate appearance in the seventh inning.
The Eagles will look to go 10-0 on the season in their next game on Thursday at home against Bishop Verot at 6:00 pm.
